It's been a while now since I've posted anything on here. Been a little busy and I'm now moving house again. Hopefully into a much better place unlike the place I'm moving out of. The house I'm now at the moment (while waiting for my new place to be cleaned and panted for me) is not the best of houses.
In Summer we had just on 2 weeks of temps above 44oC and in this house it was even hotter and I had 2 air con's going. I have a power bill of just under $700 and I've worked out that almost $360 of that was the cost of running the air con. The house has 2 very old air cons in it (I'm talking about 20 year plus years old for both of them) so their power usage would not be cheap. Talking to people around town they said their air cons had problems working well and they had newer ones installed, well mostly they have those roof top water ones. I had a lot of trouble trying to keep my computer/studio room cool on these hot days, in fact even on the nice 30oC days it was hot in the room. At time it was hotter in that room than it was outside and that's a big problem. There was a couple of days when I had to shut down everything just because it was too hot. I had a water cooler and fans going but they couldn't keep the room below the 32 which is where I would've been happy. There was a couple of times it hit the 38 mark in which I shut the system down and had to go with the internet and computer for a few hours. In the new house, which is a smaller house, it has a big split system in it and it will be able to cool down the room where I'll have the computer/studio set up. It also has 2 other little air cons which are only new ones (a couple of years old) so they should not cost as much as this place does. It as gas heating unlike the house I'm in now which is a wood heater, so you have to have a supply of wood which normally costs about $100 a month to run. The new place also has a much newer and better hot water service which will be much cheaper to run again unlike the house I'm in that has one of those old hot water systems from the 50's still in it.
The new house will be ready this Friday for me to sign the rental papers for so I can't wait. I'm just very lucky I've been given extra time to move out of the place I'm in at the moment. I think it helped a lot having a place to move into and that the fact it wasn't really me stopping me from moving it was the owners of the new house that wanted to do a few things to it before new people moved in. I must say thou, if it wasn't for a friend that has lent me the money for the bond and first 2 weeks rent I would be in a lot of trouble, no place to live, so I can't thank them enough for the help.
I have a lot of things to move but seeing I'm only moving around the corner from where I am now I'll be able to walk a lot of things there. I'll be putting all the important things in the car as I don't want people to know what I own, there can be some not so nice people in this town and besides I don't need to be showing tourists what is going to be in the house.
It's not even Winter yet and I've been hit with the flu even thou I've had my flu shot for this year. I've had 2 days in hospital because of it but then again it doesn't take much for that to happen. I have to head down to Melbourne next month to have my pacemaker checked and replaced, it's battery has gone flat in it so it means another stay in hospital for a small op to have my one removed and replaced with a new one. It's going to be interesting to see when and how they are going to do it seeing the one I have was done over in WA. It does make me wonder thou on how it went flat in less than 6 months when they say it doesn't go off much and it had over 80% of battery life left in it when it was checked last. One of the issues I have is the place where I get it checked here wants to check them every 3 months but my specialists in the past say it only needs checking every 6 months. Now I don't have an issue with checking it every 3 months but when the place you go too charge above the Medicare payment it makes it very hard when your going to end up over $100 out of pocket when your only trying to live on a pension. I wouldn't care as much if it was every 6 months but not when they want to check it every 3 months. Do they think people are made of money? I've done the sums and it would be a lot cheaper going down to Melbourne, which is just on 480kms away (one way) to have it checked then to travel to Mildura which is about 160kms away (one way).
Anyhow that's about it for this update. You can follow me on Twitter for more quick updates. So until next time, be good to others and take care people.
Not much has been happening since I last posted, in fact nothing has happened that's been worth sharing with anyone. My health hasn't changed which is a good thing in one way but a bad thing because I'm not getting better.
I lead a very boring life these days. I keep to myself, that way I keep out of trouble if that's even possible but I do try.
Its Summer here in Australia and we've had some really hot days so far this year and there is a lot more to come. Just in the coming week we're not going to have a day under 35c which is not good knowing the house I'm in is made out of tin.
Anyhow time for sleep as its early in the morning. So until next time be good people.
It's that time of the year when we sit down and think about who to vote for in the biggest music count in the country. I'm talking about the ABC's youth radio station, Triple J's Hottest 100.
Who are you going to vote for this year? Check out the voting list and get ready for the start of voting on 26th (Boxing Day). You can even go back over the history of the Hottest 100 and see who came in at number one and who didn't.
What is it with the youth of today? I know I have asked this question before but when you see and read about some of the most stupid things they are doing it really makes you think. They hop into their cars and hoon around on the roads thinking "it's never going to happen to me" and then you see photos like these?
IRATE police have released security pictures of two youths suspected of joyriding on the back of a moving train, putting their lives at risk.
I have traveled on these trains and these trains can travel at speeds up to 100 - 110Km/h and even thou they are smooth trains to ride in, this is just plain old stupid. if these two kids fall off the train at the speed it's traveling at these two would not be alive.
You can read the full story at PerthNow a long with more photos of these two idiots.
The other month I did an upgrade to my N95 to the newest version of 30.0.015 (dated 15/07/08) and have found my phone seems to be worse. I know the N95 can be a little deaf when it comes to signal but now you have to be within 4kms to a base station and even if you are only a block and a half from the tower it seems to have issues getting full signal. I have two N95's and both are the same thing but when I use my old N70 I get service up to 15kms away from a tower. I have even tried the phone with the other two phone carriers here in Australia and it's the same issue. I use Vodafone full time.
So what I'm asking is, has anyone else had this happen to them after updating the phones software or is it that I have just been unlucky with my two N95's?
15,000 homes and businesses lost power last Friday in Casuarina, a suburb of Darwin for up to 15 hours. Today, Monday, the people of Casuarina were told to stock up on batteries and even buy a generator because if the sub-station goes again before standby generators get up there they might not have power for about a week. Here are some of the pictures of what coursed the power outage.
Now isn't this the year 2008 or are we back on the 60's again? Why is it the power companies can't supply power to their customers? And when they do they over charge customers. Here in NSW I have found out I'm paying over 50% more for power than I was back in WA and back there people said they were paying too much for power. I would like to see these people try and live over here. I'm not looking forward to summer time here because my latest power bill (I got it on Friday) was very high when my bills are normally under $200 for this time of year and this latest bill is over $310. Everyone I have spoken to about it all say that there power bills are high. The way it's looking I'm going to be getting a power bill over $1500 over the summer months and this is just something I can not afford on a pension. I've never paid over $260 for power in summer and now I'm getting bills well over it. I think it's time to move out of this area because I can not get power bills that high, it would mean going without food and medication.
On Thursday night in the city of Melbourne a group of men bashed another man unconscious in a Hungry Jacks store. This is disgusting for many reasons, in the video below that was filmed and posted on YouTube you see this poor guy getting bashed and not one emplyee came to the person help and nor do you see any police. I know you would say you wouldn't get involved but if I was a worker at this fast food outlet I would have set off the hold up alarm so police could have been there very quickly to help. This guy could have been killed by these animals. Is this what melbourne is getting like, not able to go into the city on any night with having to worry whether your going to end up in Hospital or possiblely killed? SHAME ON MELBOURNE SHAME.
Check out the video on 3AW website and can to viewed there as well. If you know any of these guys please help the police and let them know.
